At the seaside, on the island of Zanzibar, The Dongwe Club welcomes you in its lovely gardens sloping down to an endless white sandy beach, where you can inhale the aromas of spices and sea. You will be enchanted by the lush vegetation and beautiful coral reef sea bottom. An unforgettable holiday to discover African wildlife, with forest excursions, safaris in Tanzania and swimming with the dolphins. We will make you live a tropical dream, but with Italian taste and tradition. The Zanzibar archipelago is located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Tanzania. It consists of two main islands, Unguja and Pemba, and a set of smaller islands including Tumbatu, Mnemba, Uzi, Mesali, Latham. Zanzibar, also known as the Spice Island, is the largest island on the East African coast. After being at the centre of interest of Sumerians, Assyrians, Egyptians, Phoenicians, Chinese, Portuguese, Arabs of Oman, the Dutch and the English, the island has in recent times become a part of Tanzania. The Shirazi Persians and Omani Arabs were those who stayed longest and created a kingdom and it is precisely their influence which is still visible on the island. The eastern coast is surrounded by a coral reef full of colourful tropical fish. Long sandy beaches and beautiful lush vegetation await you in this corner of paradise. Come and discover Zanzibar!
Kizimkazi Is a small fishing village located in the southern part of the island, the departure point for motor boats. An excursion for snorkelling enthusiasts, who will experience the wonders the Indian Ocean and dolphin watching (depending on the season and tides).
Jozani Forest Is the most important of the three island forests. Stretching over more than 2,400 acres, it is home to numerous Zanzibar red colobus, a monkey species endemic to Zanzibar and Blue Monkey, which live in an uncontaminated vegetation among plane and mahogany trees, ferns and many other species.
Stone Town The ancient Stone Town, a city of stone and capital of Zanzibar is one of the most fascinating places on the island: a maze of winding streets of with whitewashed coral houses and majestic palaces, rich in history and culture.
Prison Island Prison Island, with a population of more than 150 turtles can be reached from the port of StoneTown, on board a dhow. After visiting the old prisons, you arrive at a sandy strip where you can dive into the crystal clear sea and swim among fish and corals. Lunch with typical local dishes is served in the shade of a colourful kanga.
Blue Safari On board a dhow we set sail for the beautiful Menai Bay, where numerous dolphins are regularly seen. After a tasty barbecue on the beach, you have a chance to try sailing with a ngalawa, a typical local trimaran.
Island tour A trip to Nungwi in an off road vehicle, accompanied by an expert guide, to visit a dhow factory, the typical local sailing boat, still built using ancient techniques. The rest of the morning is dedicated to the sea and sun on pristine beaches. After lunch, the tour continues towards the inland villages and a spice plantation.

Climate Tropical climate regulated by trade winds and monsoons bringing heavy rainfall between March and May and between October and December. The season between June and September, and January and February are the drier seasons with high temperatures but softened by the breeze. Zanzibar, like Tanzania and Kenya, is subject to a differential tide: during certain parts of the year the difference between the minimum and maximum level has an evident impact on the coastline and the beaches and the presence of algae on the beach and/or patches in the sea. Information regarding the climate is indicative only, based on annual averages. We are witnessing a worldwide climate change and thus it is not possible to provide more accurate information.
Clothing Summer and informal clothes, practical for safaris and excursions, but don’t forget a rain jacket, hats, sunglasses, rubber shoes and a heavier item of clothing for the “winter” evenings (from July to September).
Pets Not allowed.
Medicines It is recommended that you bring your own standard personal medicines and other most common drugs such as antihistamines, antibiotics, steroids, anti-flu medicine, intestinal disinfectants, band-aids, sticks with ammonia, ear drops, sunburn lotions, high-protection creams. We also recommend to contact your doctor in any case for more appropriate advice regarding the type of medicines suitable for the trip. Please remember this is a tropical area subject to sudden climate changes, which can cause an increased presence of insects and can sometimes be annoying. Any such insect/mosquito bite does not normally represent a risk of infection, merely causing itchy skin depending on the different individual pigmentation. Hence, it is highly recommended, according to personal sensitivity, to purchase insect repellent products.
Minors Unaccompanied minors cannot stay at the hotel. The resort welcomes children from 2 years and above. There are no special structures or assistance services.
The Dongwe Club is located directly by the sea, on the eastern coast of Zanzibar, where the climate is drier and more pleasant, approximately 6 km from the village of Michamvi and 65 km from the capital Stone Town.
